It is a mixture of Savannah and forested areas named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary. Akagera is gifted with the forest-fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, Savannah plains and rolling highlands that make it the most scenic national park anywhere in Africa. In Akagera National Park, you should expect to find high levels of biodiversity on your trip look out for mostly the big mammals.

Akagera National Park is the only Savannah park in Rwanda with a wide number of wildlife species like the Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Hippos, Kobs, Zebras, Bushbucks, Waterbucks and most recently Black Rhinos have been introduced from South Africa. Akagera is officially a big 5 park like it was many years ago. Bird lovers also have a chance to go birdwatching in this park since the park is home to numerous bird species.

1 Day Akagera National Park Itinerary.

While on this tour, you will experience a classic true African safari in Rwanda – the land of “a Thousand Hills.” The day starts off with a number of expectations like a visit to the cultural communities in the park, sight the wildlife big 5, among other expectations.

The trip starts off early morning, you will be picked up by our driver guide at 5:30 am and head to Akagera National Park, The drive takes 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach and check-in at the park. After the check in you will start your game drive taking about 5 to 6 hours depending on your arrival time. While on your game drive with our guide, you will enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds from the singing birds of this Savannah park gazing at the Elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Lions, leopard, and Rhinos were recently introduced into the park. You will have your lunch within the designated picnic areas in the park and later return to Kigali in the evening.
