What's Included in Our Camping Gear Rental

Every camping package is inspected, cleaned, and pressure-tested before it leaves our yard. Depending on the package you choose, your rental includes:

A rooftop tent (mounted on the vehicle) or a freestanding ground tent, sized for 2–4 people
Mattresses, pillows, and sleeping bags rated for Rwanda’s cooler highland nights
A gas cooker with basic cookware, plates, and utensils
A cooler box for perishables and drinks
Folding camp chairs and a table
Solar lanterns or rechargeable camp lighting
A basic tool kit, tyre repair kit, and spare fuel canister
A first aid kit and emergency roadside triangle

Good to Know Before You Camp in Rwanda

Camping is only permitted at registered sites inside national parks or established lakeside campgrounds — wild camping outside these areas isn’t allowed
The dry seasons (roughly June–September and December–February) offer the easiest driving conditions; wet-season roads are still passable in a 4×4 but expect slower going
Book park camping permits ahead of your trip, especially for Akagera and Nyungwe in peak months
Planning to cross into Uganda or Tanzania with the vehicle? Let us know in advance so we can arrange the correct cross-border paperwork

How Booking Works

Our gear covers shelter, sleep, and cooking. You’ll still want to bring:

Layered clothing — Rwanda’s highland nights get cold even close to the equator
Insect repellent and a headlamp or torch
Personal medication and a printed copy of your park permits
Cash (Rwandan francs) for park entry fees and small local purchases
A refillable water bottle — safe drinking water is available at most lodges and fuel stations along main routes

Toyota RAV4 with Rooftop Tent — Best for Couples or Two Travelers

Compact, fuel-efficient, and easy to handle on both tarmac and the graded roads inside most parks. A good match if your route is Kigali → Lake Kivu → Nyungwe, with light off-road driving.

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with Rooftop Tent — Best for Small Families or Groups of 3–4

Higher ground clearance and more cargo room, built for the rougher tracks inside Akagera National Park and the volcanic soil roads around Musanze. This is our most requested camping vehicle for a reason — it balances comfort with genuine off-road capability.
